Maricopa County recently issued a warning that leptospirosis cases are on the rise in Arizona. The disease is transmitted most commonly through urine and contaminated water sources.

- Weakness
- Tremors and/or shaking
- Fever
- Death
Prevention
Rest assured there is a canine vaccine available to help reduce the risk of this bacterial infection. Talk with your veterinarian about vaccinating your pet against leptospirosis. In addition to vaccination, other preventive measures include:
- Reducing your dog’s exposure to urine and urine contaminated soil, water, grass, food, or bedding from infected animals.
- Limiting contact with soil or water (drinking or swimming) that could be contaminated such as lakes, pools, and dog parks.
- Limiting contact with rodents, wildlife, livestock, or other dogs that may be infected.
